Shekere Workshop Series
At the : SANCTUARY :
Worthington, MA 01098

Su invites you to explore this amazingly versatile instrument in her own unrestrained and enthusiastic way. By the end of the class you will be surprised at how good you can get in just a short time.

Discover how to coax both subtle and exuberant sound; encourage dynamic physical movement in rhythm; expand sonic layers, and how to incorporate this delightful instrument into a drum circle, or other musical environment.

Come share in the poetry and mystic personality of this ancient instrument as we learn to weave, focus, and balance the threads of any musical ensemble through it's unmistakable voice.

Get a good dose of productive practice time -- really build some skills, generate confidence, and develop some muscle memory.

Classes are usually limited to 8 students, and there will be 8 shekere's available for rental during class. If you have your own shekere, please bring it with you.

Djembe - Drumming Without Damage

Percussion & Rhythm Variations
-or- "How to Play Well With Others"

Join this energetic musical playshop where rhythm is our guide. Our time will focus on weaving sonic layers, texture and juxtaposition with a variety of percussive instruments. All are invited as we learn tools for rhythmic entrainment and deep listening by finding the pulse, upbeats and downbeats, counting, changing tempo, coming in and out, and syncopation. Each percussion voice will have the opportunity to add to the sonic experience as different instruments weave together in a playful journey of rhythm. Incorporate bells, shakers, clave, digerido, flutes, frame drums, percussion toys and small drums into a cohesive ensemble. Some small percussive instruments will be made available for use during class. If you have your own instruments - please bring them.
